I used to live in California, in Santa Barbara County, and I absolutely loved it.

Some of my favorite sessions from that chapter of my life were beach photoshoots. Families walking barefoot along the shoreline. Couples wrapped up in each other with the sound of waves behind them. Everything felt calm, effortless, and full of movement.

Beach sessions have a way of stripping things back to what really matters. There is space to breathe. Kids can explore. Nothing feels rushed or overly posed. Those sessions shaped the way I photograph to this day.

Beach sessions along the California coast

Photographing families and couples along the California coast, especially in places like Santa Barbara, taught me how powerful simplicity can be. The cliffs, the ocean, and the warm coastal light create images that feel romantic without trying too hard.

That foundation is something I still carry into every session I photograph now, no matter the location.

Moving to Colorado and discovering a new kind of beauty

When I moved to Colorado, my work naturally shifted, but the heart of it stayed the same.

Instead of sandy toes and ocean breezes, my sessions began to take place among open trails, sweeping views, and dramatic mountain light. As a Denver metro photographer, my sessions now might look like a relaxed family shoot in Parker along the Cherry Creek Trail, a maternity session at Garden of the Gods, or a golden-hour evening at Mt Falcon.

The vibe is different from California. But just as emotional.

Colorado outdoor sessions offer something incredibly special. The light at sunset. The quiet moments between movement. The sense of space that allows families and couples to fully settle into being together.

Different locations, same feeling

On the surface, a beach photoshoot in California and a mountain session in Colorado couldn’t look more different. One is soft and coastal. The other is bold and earthy.

But emotionally, they can feel exactly the same.

The best sessions happen when:

  • You feel comfortable and at ease
  • You can move naturally without overthinking
  • Your kids are free to be themselves
  • You are fully present with the people you love

That emotional connection is what turns a photo into something meaningful. Something you want to print, frame, and come back to years later.

A love for travel and beach photoshoots beyond Colorado

Even though I’m based in the Denver metro area, my love for travel has never gone away.

If you’re reading this from a beach location, whether you live near the coast or are planning a beach vacation, I’d love to hear from you. Beach photoshoots still hold a special place in my heart, and I’m always excited to travel for sessions that feel aligned.

From the California coast to beach locations in Florida and beyond, coastal sessions have a way of slowing everything down and creating space for real, honest moments.

Choosing the right photographer matters more than the backdrop.

Whether your session takes place on a sandy beach or along a mountain trail, the most important part is choosing a photographer whose style matches how you want your photos to feel.

If you’re drawn to natural light, soft tones, emotional storytelling, and a relaxed, guided experience, your session will feel meaningful no matter where it happens.

Ready to plan your session?

If you’re located in the Denver metro area and dreaming of an outdoor family or maternity session, I’d love to help you plan something beautiful.

And if a beach photoshoot is calling your name, whether in California, Florida, or somewhere else entirely, feel free to reach out. I’m always happy to talk through travel options.

Because in the end, the most important thing is creating images that feel like you.
