While I’m based in the Denver metro area, I regularly photograph families in Colorado Springs, especially at iconic locations like Garden of the Gods and the surrounding mountain landscapes. Many families choose Colorado Springs for its dramatic scenery, open space, and relaxed feel, and I’m always happy to travel for sessions that offer something truly special.
This particular family session is a perfect example of why flexibility and experience matter so much when photographing families with babies.
When mom, dad, and their baby boy arrived, mom mentioned that he wasn’t feeling quite like his usual smiley self. We moved slowly, followed his lead, and focused on calm, connected moments rather than forcing anything. After capturing a handful of beautiful images, it was clear he needed a little rest — so we wrapped the session early.
Mom was understandably worried that his usually cheerful personality may not show in the photos.
But when I delivered their gallery, she sent the kind of message that reminds me exactly why I do what I do.
"I can’t wait to share this with friends and family! Multiple have made me cry..........I've never loved photos before this is so special thank you again"
The images told a story — one of love, closeness, and presence. And those are often the moments families treasure the most.
