For this maternity photoshoot, we chose the awe-inspiring Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, a favorite among my clients for its striking red rocks, expansive views, and a touch of Colorado magic that’s hard to find anywhere else. But on the morning of the shoot, as luck would have it, the forecast wasn’t exactly in our favor. Rain was on the way.
Knowing how much this session meant to Mom and Dad, we stayed in close contact, weighing the options. Rescheduling wasn't possible, so we decided to take a chance and push on. As I drove down to meet them, the rain picked up—so much so that it felt like the weather was challenging us to turn back.
With an umbrella in hand, Dad and I made sure to keep Mom as dry as possible. Between each shot, he held the umbrella over her and stepped aside just in time for me to capture those beautiful, raw moments. It became a dance, working with the weather to reveal the magic of this incredible place. The colors in the rain, the mist, and the soft light added an almost ethereal quality to the images that sunny weather could never replicate.
I always aim to create a seamless experience for my clients, from capturing the moments to ensuring they’re comfortable, even in less-than-ideal conditions. The rain may have been a challenge, but the result was something uniquely stunning—a memory of their strength, joy, and excitement that they’ll cherish forever.
For those seeking a beautiful maternity session in Colorado, sometimes the unplanned moments make for the most memorable images. If you're interested in capturing your own maternity story, rain or shine, let’s make it truly special.
